Youth is not a time of life; it is a state of mind; it is not a matter of rosy cheeks, red lips and supple（柔软的、灵活的） knees; it is a matter of the will, a quality of the imagination, a vigor（活力） of the emotions; it is the freshness of the deep springs of life.

Youth means a temperamental（情绪多变的、义气用事的） predominance（优势） of courage over timidity（胆怯）, of the appetite for adventure over the love of ease. This often exists in a man of 60 more than a boy of 20. Nobody grows old merely by a number of years. We grow old by deserting our ideals.

In the center of your heart and my heart, there is a wireless station; so long as it receives messages of beauty, hope, courage and power from man and from the infinite, so long as you are young.

When your aerials are down, and your spirit is covered with snows of cynicism（玩世不恭） and the ice of pessimism, then you’ve grown old, even at 20; but as long as your aerials are up, to catch waves of optimism, there’s hope you may die young at 80.

语法和用法积累

如果仅仅掌握生词，那么在考试的紧张状态下肯定是华丽丽地忘光光。在这里我们看一些值得记忆和补充的短语和用法，并且把整篇文段进行梳理。

4.在这里收集几个不需要多讲的短语

eg2：bow to me  向我鞠躬/下跪/臣服   （迪士尼电影《花木兰》中，匈奴逼迫皇帝屈从下跪时使用了这个短语）     同理，有文中的bow the heart

7.讲一个语法点：die young（文章末尾）

也许你会疑惑：怎么不加ly呢？

这是形容词作状语。作状语时可表示原因、时间、伴随、方式、让步等。

比如：

He died young.                             他离世很早。

Many painful patients die young.            很多痛苦的病人年纪轻轻就死去。

举例：

    ①Surprised, I walked to the dancefloor.     我惊喜地走向舞池。

    ② Two teams are competing with each other, full of stress.       

          两支队伍充满压力，互相竞争。

形容词作状语可以简化表达手法，缩短句子的长度。

创作背景

塞缪尔·厄尔曼(1840.4.13-1924.3.21)是一名出生于德国的美国作家。儿时随家人移居美利坚，参加过南北战争，后定居伯明翰，经营五金杂货，年逾70开始写作。著作有知名散文《青春》等。其中著名作品《青春》已被翻译为多种语言。

Also，I recommend you listen to another Taylor’s song《fifteen》.When she was fifteen，somebody told her he loved her，but she didn’t chose to believe him，unlike what many of us would do.（在这里收藏一句不知道是不是泰勒斯说过的话：“当15岁的我走过教学楼，听见厕所里约会失败的女孩的哭声，我告诉自己：‘我不要成为那样的人’。”）So “youth” is not only a time for joy or even sex，but a time when we can do things better than taking puppy love with others.Here Taylor is not only the“MUSIC INDUSTRY”，but also a fantasic model of teenagers who gain both reputation 、fame and what  really counts， “talent”， by making the most of “YOUTH”.
